Beatrice Akuvi Hosen Kumordzie (born 25 May 1994), or known mononymously as Akuvi, is a Norwegian singer, songwriter and voice-over artist.
Early life
Kumordzie was born to a family with a musical background in Asker. Her father is Ghanaian musician Kofi Kumoji and her older sister is actress and singer Anna-Lisa Kumoji.[1]
Kumordzie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in peace and conflict studies from Oslo New University College and her master's degree in social science, specializing in political science and the sociology of religion from University of Cape Town, South Africa where she discovered and experimented with music with local musicians.[2] She also works as a student guidance counsellor.
Career
In 2019, Kumordzie released her first single "Free Me from Me" with Algerian-German musician Kechou and appeared on the television show Beat for Beat. The same year, she released her debut album Unfinished Business.[3][4]
In 2020, she was announced as one of the competitors of Melodi Grand Prix 2020, a music competition, with the song "Som du er".[5] She co-wrote the song with Andreas Stone Johansson, Costa Leon, Amin Zana and failed to advance to the gold final.[6]
Three years later, she returned to Melodi Grand Prix 2023 with the song "Triumph" which was co-written with Anderz Wrethov, Andreas Stone Johansson, and Konstantinos Vlastaras.[7] She competed at the third semi-final but failed to advance to the finals.[8]
Voice-over acting
Kumordzie was cast as the Norwegian voice of Dolores Madrigal in the 2021 Disney fantasy comedy animated film Encanto.[9] She also voiced the Norwegian version of Karma in the Netflix animated series, Karma's World.[10]
