Al-Mihwar Center for Studies & Strategic Planning
Al-Mihwar Center for Studies & Strategic Planning (MCSSP) (Arabic: مركز المحور للدراسات والتخطيط الاستراتيجي) is an Iraqi think tank located in the city of Basra, south of Iraq. It is registered on 30 August 2018 bu the number of 1E78570 as an Iraqi non-governmental organization (NGO).[1]
According to its website, Al-Mihwar Center for Studies & Strategic Planning is a research institute which seeks to establish a strategic vision to facilitate the decision making process in Iraq in regards to the current and upcoming social, cultural, and political issues in this country. It declares that it develops its strategies independenct of political interests and lobbying groups.[2]
It holds lectures,[3] conferences[4] and workshops and publishes books,[5] strategic reports[6] and briefings[7] in Arabic and English. It deals with issues such as energy,[8] environment,[9] sectarianism,[10] tourism,[11] future of Iraqi economics,[12] domestic politics of Iraq[13] and Iraqi law.[14] Members of Iraqi parliaments (such as Falih al-Khazali[15]), university scholars and Iraqi researchers have contributed to Al-Mihwar's publication and events. Before the Iraqi parliamentary election 2018, Al-Mihwar Center held some election debates hosting the candidates.[16]
It also published a quarterly called Al-Mihwar Studies[17] as well as a monthly called Ayghuna al-Iqtisad[18] both in Arabic.
Al-Mihwar Center has mutual contracts and cooperation with number of institutions including Basra College of Petroleum and Technology.[19]
