Al The Yeti Bones
Alexander Petrovich is his family name, though he's generally known by his on-the-road sobriquet -- Al The Yeti Bones[1], the frontman of a Canadian rock band called Gypsy Chief Goliath and also a member of the Age of Wolves[2], both bands are Windsor-based. Besides being a musician, he is a writer, actor, entertainer, podcast host, marketer, networking specialist, artist manager, wrestling, and MMA enthusiast. On stage he's known simply as Al The Yeti Bones; "The Yeti Bones" is a laudatory term that was assigned to him early in his career.
Biography
Alexander Petrovich was born on July 22, 1980, in Oakville, Ontario. Al initially played piano at the age of four, guitar at the age of 11, and at the age of 15, he was lead vocalist-guitarist of a band he formed with school friends, The Ravens while attending Massey High School in Windsor, Ontario. Later, he studied journalism at the University of Windsor and Music Industry and Arts at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, as well as taking correspondence courses in finance from the University of Waterloo. Al has been a part of the global Stoner Rock scene since 1999. That year he formed a band called Mister Bones[3] and released four albums under Montreal-based Obskure Sombre Records.[4] He wrote a chapter in the "Gigs From Hell" book[5] that became a huge seller and was reviewed in Revolver magazine. Al toured North America intermittently from 2000 to 2012. In 2004, he joined members of Sixty Watt Shaman in a then-new band called The Mighty Nimbus. He permanently replaced guitarist Erik Larson and a little later vocalist Don Soren when the two left to pursue their respective musical careers elsewhere. A tour of the U.S. in 2004 included a performance at the Emissions from the Monolith Festival in Youngstown, Ohio, featuring Saint Vitus (band) reunion between The Hidden Handset, and Debris Inc. (which also featured Jimmy Bower on drums. A year later (2005) The Mighty Nimbus would travel yet again across the U.S this time in support of three legendary metal bands: Entombed (band), Crowbar (American band),[6] and Pro-Pain. This was for Philadelphia Candlelight Records, which released two albums. In 2006, Al formed Georgian Skull and was signed to Italy's Scarlet Records, distributed globally through German record label SPV GmbH (Motorhead) via Scarlet. Scarlet had recently inked a deal in North America with Entertainment One and Georgian Skull albums were made available worldwide through them. Later, the band booked a three-month tour across Canada. They released one official album which featured the cover art by Vince Locke (artist for Cannibal Corpse, Cephalic Carnage, and the History of Violence (graphic novel). The band disbanded shortly after that. In 2009 Al formed the present band -- Gypsy Chief Goliath -- then signed to Pitch Black Records[6] from Cyprus. Members of Gypsy Chief Goliath have achieved a lot in their tenure as a band; they have toured extensively for many years and they have acquired a large fan base. Prior to the pandemic, he was asked to join the Age of Wolves.
Al credits Mia Tyler with the initial idea of starting a management company together and in the initial phases helped bring Al along quickly through networks. He often gets asked to feature his voice or guitar abilities on many other bands' records, some include Carcharodon (Italy), Ball Harness (Toronto), Blood Runs Cold (Toronto), and others.
Al has also been written about in magazines such as Decibel Magazine, Metal Maniacs, Hit Parader, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles, Terrorizer, Metal Hammer to name a few. Al has made a great relationship with MMA legends, Gary Goodridge, and Dan Severn, and edited a pair of highlight reels with voice-over for them.
Al had developed a television show to be broadcast on Cogeco Cable HD channels, that never aired due to extenuating circumstances that lead him to host his own podcast. The format of the program was stripped down and used in other podcast shows instead. More visibility through the internet and cable would require advertisement sponsorship money, and time is limited in Al's life, so the idea of a podcast just seemed to be the right fit at the time. Also, he has done commercials, the most recent for American Express[7]
