Alan Crossman, CEng, FIStructE, FICE, MCIWEM is a British structural engineer and former President of the Institution of Structural Engineers.[4]
Early life and education[edit]
Crossman was born in 1947 in West Hampstead, London.[4]
Crossman left school to work as a junior draughtsman in an architectural practice.[4] He enrolled at the College of North West London and took the Institution of Structural Engineers Chartered Membership Qualifying Examinations.[5]
Engineering career[edit]
After five years experience as a junior structural engineer in an architectural practice he joined Andrews, Kent and Stone, consulting structural engineers[6] where he completed the examinations to become a Chartered Engineer at the age of 25. He designed and managed building development projects and the surface reorganisation of the Manton Colliery, Nottinghamshire.
Crossman joined Lovell Construction Services[7] (now part of the Morgan Sindall Group) in a design and build interdisciplinary team but left after eight years to become Technical Manager and Chief Engineer of a precast concrete company. In the early 1990s he moved to Watson Hawkesley (MWH Global) as lead structural engineer and stayed with them for 20 years. Projects included Chingford Water,[1] Katrine, and Peacehaven Treatment Works.[4]
Crossman is member of the industrial advisory Board of Brunel University[8] and an external examiner at the Technological University Dublin.[9] Crossman was President of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2016.[10]
