Alberto Gotay is an instructor of a number of fields including police tactics, boxing, judo, and karate. [1] He was the former Commanding Officer of the NYPD Physical Education Unit of the NYPD. [1] He is currently a Professor at the John Jay College. [1]

Martial Arts Experience[edit]

Al would compete in the 176lbs division. [2] Gotay would compete in and earn a silver and outstanding sportsnman medal for his performance at the Metropolitan Judo Sub-Novice Competition. [2] He would work with Peter Urban (karate) for a number of events. This would include a weapons demonstration. [3] He would receive a number of awards based on his work. [4] He is currently ranked as a Yodan by USA JUDO. [5] He is currently ranked as a 10th degree black belt in Karate.[6] He would do a demonstration at the New York State Professional Krate Heavyweight Championships. [7]

He would have others people to establish the program at John Jay. [8] Gotay would serve as the coach for the John Jay Karate Club and Judo Club. [9] Al would serve as the Ski Club, Scuba Club. [10] He would also serve as the coach for the Iona College Judo Club. [9] He would additionally serve as the Coach for the Iona College Goju Karate Club. [11]Al would serve as a tournament director between John Jay and Iona College. [12]

Professional Experience[edit]

Al was a legendary figure in the NYPD and would reach the rank of Sergeant. [13] Gotay is retired from the NYPD as well as the US ARMY and Coast Guard Reserve. [10] Gotay has also taught courses at Staten Island College, York College, Kingsborough Community College, and Bergen College[10]

He is the author of Martial Arts Basics: From Olympic Sports to Self-Defense Systems.[14] He would also write Boxing Basics and Self Defense Basics. [15] He would also write the book, Physical Fitness Basics: Programs for Public Service Personnel and Candidates for Employment, [16] He would write a book called Boxing Basics: The Techniques and Knowledge Needed to Excel in the Sport of Boxing.
