Alden, California

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Alden (also, North Temescal) was a former settlement in Alameda County, California. It was located 2 mi north of Oakland.[1]

A post office opened in North Temescal, Oakland, California in 1877, and the name was changed to Alden in 1899.[2] The name commemorated S.E. Alden, a farmer and landowner.[1] In 1908, the Alden post office became Station E of the Oakland post office.[1][3] The location indicated by the GNIS coordinates for the former Alden post office is now in the shopping village in the Montclair, Oakland, California neighborhood, which is the current location of the Station E post office.[4] However, a 1916 source indicates that the Station E post office was located at 49th Street and Telegraph Avenue for 30 years.[5]
