Alejandro T. Lim was a Filipino politician who served as the governor of the province of Antique in the Philippines from 1935 to 1938.
Political career
Lim ran for the governorship of Antique during the June 5, 1934 Philippine general elections. He faced off against Alberto A. Villavert, incumbent Governor Mamerto Portillo, and former Governor Enrique Salvani. The provincial board of canvassers initially proclaimed Lim as the winner with 4,399 votes, securing a narrow majority of 59 votes over Villavert, who placed second with 4,340 votes.[1]
His victory was quickly challenged when Villavert filed an election protest before the Court of First Instance of Antique, alleging frauds and irregularities in several municipalities, including San Jose. Lim filed a counter-protest in response. After hearing the evidence, the trial court declared Lim legally elected to the office with a reduced majority of 36 votes over Villavert. The case was subsequently elevated to the Supreme Court of the Philippines, which thoroughly reviewed the contested ballots and ultimately affirmed Lim's victory on September 25, 1935.[1]
Following the resolution of the electoral disputes, Lim served his term as governor from 1935 until 1938. He was succeeded by his former political rival, Alberto A. Villavert, who won the subsequent election.
