    1. Aleko Elisashvili

Aleko (Aleksandre) Elisashvili, born in 1978, is a journalist and urban activist in Tbilisi, Georgia. He is currently running as an independent mayoral candidate in the municipal elections scheduled for October 2017. As one of four candidates, Elisashvili positions himself as an alternative to the ruling Georgian Dream party and the previous ruling United National Movement party. He claims both parties share responsibility for Tbilisi’s persistent problems.[1] His platform emphasizes his independence from other parties and business interests.[2]

Elisashvili gained public attention through his advocacy for the reconstruction and redevelopment of Gudiashvili Square in Sololaki, Tbilisi. He has also led protests against other large urban development projects.[3] Additionally, he served as the chair of the Presidential Pardon Commission from 2013 to 2014, where he alleged influence-peddling involving senior government figures.[4][5] Elisashvili has previously worked as a journalist, including for Maestro (TV channel).[6]
