Aleksandra Wasilkowska (born Warsaw, 1978) is a Polish architect,[1] artist,[2] and theatre set designer.[3] [4] She runs a studio specializing in the design of public utility buildings [5] [6] as well as exhibitions [7][8] and theatrical installations.
Career[edit]
Together with the artist Agnieszka Kurant, Wasilkowska represented Poland at the XII Venice Biennale of Architecture.[9][10] Wasilkowska belongs to the National Chamber of Polish Architects[n 1] and to the Warsaw Department of Association of Polish Architects (vice-president between 2012 and 2015).[citation needed]
Wasilkowska is an author of the books, e.g.Emergency Exit,[11][12] as well as a series of books titled Shadow Architecture.[13] The books discuss spaces in the margins of general attention like bazaars, street trade, public toilets, waste yards, and cemeteries.
Her most important architectural projects are the revitalization of Bakalarska Bazaar[1][14] in Warsaw (a place for over 25 nationalities to trade), Ptasia bazaar in Wrocław, Różycki bazaar[14] and the surrounding residential quarter in Warsaw, Babski bazaar in Biała Podlaska, and Błonie bazaar (as of 2021, under construction).[citation needed]
