Alessandro Lunghi
Alessandro Lunghi (born 1987) is an Italian physicist currently holding the role of Assistant Professor at the School of Physics, Trinity College Dublin, and Funded Investigator at the AMBER Research Centre. He is known for pioneering work in *ab initio* spin dynamics simulations and the use of machine learning for quantum materials design.[1][2] He currently holds an h-index of 25 with over 2400 citations.[3]
Early life and education
Lunghi was born in 1987 in Carmignano, near Florence, Italy. He earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Florence in 2009 and 2012, respectively. In 2016, he completed a Ph.D. in Chemistry there, and received an award for the best Ph.D. thesis in molecular magnetism, working under the supervision of Professor Federico Totti.[4][5]
Career
In 2016, Lunghi joined the School of Physics at Trinity College Dublin as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Professor Stefano Sanvito. He was appointed Assistant Professor in 2021. His research focuses on the intersection of spin relaxation theory, quantum science, and machine learning applied to materials discovery.[5] [6] [7]
In 2020, he was awarded a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant.[8] In 2022, he received the Intel Rising Star Faculty Award, which recognizes early-career researchers poised to make a significant impact in technology and academia.[9]
