Andrea Ponsi is an Italian architect.

Early life and education[edit]

Ponsi was born in 1949 in Viareggio, Italy. He graduated from the School of Architecture of the University of Florence in 1974. In 1977 he completed an Architectural Association graduate diploma and was given a fellowship to do post-graduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania from 1977 to 1978. He has written on Analogy and Design.[3]

Career[edit]

His work is published in the magazines Domus, Interni, Wallpaper and Casabella Japan. In 2000 he won the international competition for the design of the Palos Verdes Art Center in Los Angeles.[1] He designed the Tiburon House in Tiburon, California in 2008.[1][4] His research focuses on the role of analogical thinking in the design process and the use of metals specially copper.[1][2] In 2008, he co-founded with his son Luca the architectural firm Studio Ponsi-Architecture and Design based in Florence.[5] Ponsi draws with pencil and watercolor.[6][3]
