Alex Carrillo (born November 20, 1998) is a Mexican illustrator and visual artist from Saltillo, Coahuila.[1] In 2020 he became a best-selling author for his book Faces a coloring book by Alex Carrillo.[2][3][4][5]

He has collaborated with Scribe México and Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.[6] His art has reached The Walt Disney Family Museum and countries such as China, India, the United States, England, and Brazil.[7][8]

Career[edit]

Carrillo started drawing from an early age.[9] His style is inspired by animated series and the streetwear culture. He took as reference artists such as Glen Keane, Kaws, and Hanna-Barbera, and Disney cartoons.[1][10][11]

In 2018 he began his major in Animation and Digital Art at Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education. He started to share his art on social networks, which led him to collaborate with different Mexican brands.[6]

Faces a coloring book by Alex Carrillo[edit]

In 2020 he released his first coloring book Faces a coloring book by Alex Carrillo.[12][13] It became a Best-seller in Amazon Mexico in the Arts and Culture in a Foreign Language category alongside J.K Rowling and Kaws.[14][15][16]

It is inspired by contemporary fashion as well as diversity and multiculturalism in people.[17][18][19] The book reached different countries such as Canada, the United States, Panama, and the Netherlands.[7]

Exhibitions[edit]

In 2020 he participated in the call for the virtual exhibition of The Walt Disney Family Museum, being one of the 120 selected artists.[20] The exhibition paid tribute to the 55th anniversary of the song It’s a Small World.[21][8][22]

He contributed with his illustration titled Unity with 55 characters from different cultures around the world.[10][23][24]

Collaborations and other projects[edit]

  • In 2018 he was invited by Scribe México to make a Valentine's Day illustration.[21][25]
  • He was in charge of the character design for the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education's Storytellers program.
  • He has illustrated album covers and scenography for plays.[6][26]
  • In 2020, he illustrated author Lakia T. Hickman's children's book ABC's of Self-Confidence: To Help Promote Positive Self-Esteem, a self-esteem's book for African-American boys and girls.[10][27]

Awards[edit]

He received the distinction of Best Creative Leader five consecutive times, an award granted by the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Saltillo.[1][28]
