Alex Gurteen (born 1999) is a British athlete, artist and internet personality. He is known for his performances as an athlete, notably winning the 2016–17 East Surrey League in addition to finishing third overall in the 2011-12 Downs League. As an artist, Gurteen submitted the winning entry for for a national Christmas card competition ran by ABF The Soldiers' Charity in 2014 [1]Gurteen is also known for his YouTube videos, which have in total accumulated over 1.3 million views as of December 2017.[2]
Biography[edit]
Alex Gurteen was born in London, England in 1999.[3] At primary school, Gurteen showed a keen interest in running and joined his local running club, Epsom and Ewell Harriers in September 2009 at the age of 10. Gurteen preferred middle distance events, as well as cross country running. His first success was achieving 3rd place overall in the 2011-12 Epsom Downs League. From 2011 onwards, Gurteen ran 1500 m races on the track, appearing in events such as the Surrey Track and Field Championships. After seven years of competing for Epsom and Ewell Harriers, Gurteen found further success, notably winning the 2016–17 East Surrey Cross Country League.[3] Gurteen also an assistant coach at Epsom and Ewell Harriers, helping to guide the junior team. Gurteen also enjoys tennis, and was a member of Ewell Tennis Club in 2016.
Beyond athletics, Gurteen had an interest in creating YouTube videos. He created his YouTube account, oscar1994alex1999, in 2010. In 2013, after uploading videos including himself playing the popular video game Wii Sports Resort, his YouTube channel increased in popularity, with one of his videos reaching 1 million views in 2017. Gurteen also enjoys producing artwork. In 2014, at the age of 14, Alex submitted the winning entry for ABF The Soldiers' Charity Christmas Card Competition.[4]
