Alex Marcoux (born 1959) is an American novelist, a scientist and a New Thought author. She is the creator of the Lifesign Process as revealed in her spiritual self-help book, Lifesigns: Tapping the Power of Synchronicity, Serendipity and Miracles.[1] Colorado’s Amendment 2, the anti-gay and lesbian initiative, moved Marcoux to start writing in the late 1990s.[2] Her novels all feature a lesbian protagonist, and she writes in the genre of lesbian fiction, mystery and suspense thrillers. Spiritual insights often imbue Marcoux’s stories, and she probes into controversial subjects,[3] including reincarnation, law of attraction, conspiracy theories and psychic phenomena.[4]
Early life[edit]
Alex Marcoux was born and raised in Leominster, Massachusetts. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1981, with a B.S. in Food Science.[5] She was married to Julius C. Ramirez in 1981,[6] and divorced in 1985.
The traditional scientist[edit]
After receiving a Food Science degree from the University of Massachusetts,[7] Alex Marcoux went to work for General Foods. Here, she was instrumental in the new product development of Crystal Light™ Powdered Soft Drink.[8] In 1982, she received the General Foods Beverage Division Award of Excellence for being a key contributor in introducing Crystal Light™ (Lemonade, Fruit Punch, Iced Tea, Lemon Lime, and Orange) to test market in record-breaking time without sacrificing quality.[9] In 1985, she received the General Foods Division President’s Award for identifying and implementing cost reduction opportunities allowing the expansion of the Grape line extension.[10] In 1990, Jeffrey Wigand, the whistleblower on the tobacco industry, hired Alex Marcoux as a Development Chemist for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company.[2] After one year of employment, Marcoux resigned from her position. While Marcoux never returned to traditional research and development, she claimed that her research actually began when she left corporate America, as “There is more to life than what can be proven in the labs.”[11] While working in Kentucky, Marcoux was named Female Mentor by the Kentucky Academy of Science.[12]
Lesbian fiction novels[edit]
Alex Marcoux moved to Colorado at the advent of Amendment 2, an anti-GLBT initiative. From the political environment came the inspiration for her first novel, Facades, a lesbian fiction romance.[13] Alice Street Editions, an imprint of The Haworth Press, published the book in 2000. She received a Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Pen Award for this publication. Bella Books published Facades First Bella Books Edition in 2011.[14]
Mystery and suspense thrillers[edit]
Alex Marcoux’s second novel, Back to Salem is a "gender-bending thriller"[15] and is a Lambda Literary Award Finalist for Best Lesbian Mystery.[16] In Back to Salem, Marcoux introduces Jessie Mercer as her protagonist, a precognitive writer and explores topics of reincarnation, karma and psychic phenomena. The sophomore novel was also an InsightOut Book Club selection and published in 2001 by Alice Street Editions, an imprint of The Haworth Press.[17] The story drew the attention of Atlantis Moon Productions, an independent film company which produced Back to Salem: The Short Film and selected Marcoux’s script for this project.[18] Alex Marcoux’s third novel, A Matter of Degrees is a paranormal suspense thriller featuring Jessie Mercer, her protagonist from Back to Salem. The paranormal thriller explores conspiracy theories, secret societies, including Freemasonry and its 33rd Degree, and the Sumerians. She inherited the nickname, “the lesbian Dan Brown” from this thriller,[19] published in 2006 by Harrington Park Press, an imprint of The Haworth Press. A Matter of Degrees was a Golden Crown Literary Award Finalist in Speculative Fiction, and a best novel nominee for a Gaylactic Spectrum Award.[20] Bella Books published the second edition in March 2014.
Psychic training[edit]
In her early life, Alex Marcoux professed to be a nonbeliever in psychic phenomena, yet after she began writing, she was led to the Edgar Cayce’s A.R.E., Association for Research and Enlightenment.[21] Here, she attended and graduated from a three-part psychic development program and became a member of the Wayshower Association.[1] Marcoux also studied using intuition in police work and is a former member of the Intuitive Task Force, a group of psychics and intuitives, who had assisted families and law enforcement agencies in locating missing children.[22]
New Thought author[edit]
Alex Marcoux has studied various religions and philosophies, including advanced courses of Ernest Holmes’ principles of Science of Mind. She began using her scientific disciplines shortly after she began writing novels, to examine the way the Universe communicated with her. Marcoux claims that the Universe (God, Spirit, and an individual’s Highest Power) communicates with everyone through signs. Influenced by her teachings from Ernest Holmes and the A.R.E., she discovered the Lifesign Process, a systematic approach to identifying and discerning messages given by the Universe.[23] Marcoux shares her teachings and practice in Lifesigns: Tapping the Power of Synchronicity, Serendipity and Miracles. Jenness Press published this spiritual self-help book in 2012,[24] which won the 2013 Silver Medal Living Now Book Award in the Metaphysical category.[25] Since 2009, Marcoux has written as the National New Thought Examiner on examiner.com. She has also been published in Science of Mind Magazine[26] and writes the Living on the Edge Blog.
