Alexa Rochelle Score (Born April 28, 1990) is a former professional wakeboarder and current American television broadcaster and television personality.

She is the current host on Made for the Outdoors on Sportsman Channel & Fox Sports Net, host of Destination Polaris on Fox Sports Net, and is a member of the on-air "CW Crew" at The CW Twin Cities. She is also the host of the Minnesota Vikings digital and game day content.

Alexa has appeared on PBS, Travel Channel, MTV, ESPN, SyFy and various other regional, national, and global networks.[1] She is also blood cancer patient, having lived with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia since 2006.

Alexa currently resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but spends much of her time in Orlando, Florida between seasons. In addition to being on air, she travels the country to speak at high schools, conferences, and assemblies to share her story and encourage others. She has one sister, Tiffany, with whom she is very close.

Early Life[edit]

Score was born in Willmar, Minnesota to Richard Score and Nancy Score.

Alexa grew up in the rural town of Spicer, Minnesota with her father, Richard. Her mother moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1998 and her older sister, Tiffany, left for college the following year. After regaining her strength from her battle with Leukemia, she graduated high school early with highest honors and moved to Orlando, Florida to pursue her wakeboarding career in January 2008 at age 17. While training and competing for wakeboarding, she attended the University of Central Florida and graduated in 2012 with a degree in Finance.

Battle with Leukemia[edit]

Alexa was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia on December 1, 2006 at the age of sixteen. At that time, the only primary treatment for her disease was bone marrow transplant, and was told by many doctors that she would only live for 5 years. Following the advice of one physician, she forewent having a transplant and tried the brand new, experimental oral chemotherapy drug Gleevec (imatinib). She spent months in bed, struggling with numerous side affects, including excruciating bone pain. At one point the pain became so bad, the doctors suggested she have the transplant because her conditions on Gleevec were unlivable. However, after trying an experimental combination of steroids she went from being unable to walk to competing in the Minnesota Section 6 gymnastics tournament overnight, where she won the balance beam and placed fourth on the floor exercise, earning her an individual trip to the state tournament and leading her team to the state tournament for the first (and only) time in school history. Alexa continues to live with cancer and takes Gleevec every day, which comes with a plethora of side affects. She is one of the longest standing patients on the medication, as the cancer has a high likelihood of becoming resistant to the medication within five years for most patients. [2]

She uses her platform to raise money and awareness for multiple charities including The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, BeTheMatch.org, and other local chapters for other charities within her local community. She’s also an advocate for the SteadyMD online healthcare platform.

Despite dealing with the constant side effects of cancer and treatment, Alexa has made it a priority to live an active, energetic, and healthy lifestyle. She uses her platform to speak to students, professionals, survivors, and those battling to increase awareness for her disease.

Wakeboarding and Water Sports[edit]

Alexa’s love for the water started at a young age growing up on Green Lake in Minnesota. She joined the Little Crow Water Ski Show Team at age 9 and competed with them on a national level for 10 years. During that time she was a part of two world record water ski stunts and was also one of the first humans to ever top a 5-tier pyramid at age 9. At age 14 she fell in love with wakeboarding and was determined to someday go pro. Alexa skied professionally for the Tommy Bartlett’s Water Ski Show in Wisconsin Dells for parts of two summers at age 16 and 17. After moving to Orlando, Florida with to pursue her dream at age 17, she spent years training, going to school, and working to fund her passion. After years of hard work, she competed in her first pro wakeboard contest at “Wake Games” in Orlando, Florida on her 21st birthday, April 28th, 2011. She went on to compete for six years in both boat and cable mediums, though her career was primarily based on lifestyle and brand representation. She represented brands including Liquid Force, SPY Optic, HDX Mix, SeaDoo, LifeProof, Hard Rock Café, and others. She’s been featured in Wakeboarding Magazine, Alliance Wake Magazine, Cancer Today, UCF Pegasus, Fluid Magazine, etc.

Though no longer competing, Alexa continues to be an ambassador for the sport and continues to wakeboard, waterski, and spend as much time on the water as possible. [3]
