Alexander Rudzinski
Alexander Rudzinski (born 1960, reportedly in Brooklyn, New York City) is an American-born radio presenter, journalist and musician who has lived and worked mainly in Germany. He became known in German rock radio under the on-air name "Amok Alex".[1][2]
Early life
According to a 2013 profile in Freie Presse, Rudzinski was born in New York in 1960 as the son of a professional musician.[1] In an interview with RockTimes, he described his father as a jazz musician and said that he grew up in a musical environment.[2]
Freie Presse reported that Rudzinski came to Germany in 1985 as an electrical engineer and originally expected to stay only a few years.[1] Before entering broadcasting, he worked in automotive electronics; in the same source, he is described as having sold car alarm systems and later worked for film productions before moving into radio.[1]
Career
A public professional profile attributed to Rudzinski lists him as having worked for Project 89.0 Digital from November 1998 to February 2001, for delta radio from May 2001 to May 2002, and for Radio 21/Rockland Radio from May 2002 to December 2003.[3] The same profile lists him as European Music Editor at Voices Magazine from January 2004 to August 2006 and as Moderator/Journalist at Project Reloaded from May 2007 onward.[3]
Rudzinski's public persona in German radio was associated with the nickname "Amok Alex". In the RockTimes interview, he said the nickname originated after he had played an amok gunman in a minor role in a Sat.1 production.[2] This account is based on Rudzinski's own retrospective description.[2]
In a 2013 newspaper profile, Rudzinski recalled that he had once been referred to as "the craziest radio presenter in Germany".[1] The same article described him as active in the music scene in Chemnitz at the time.[1]
Personal life
Freie Presse reported that after living in places including Frankfurt am Main, Goslar, Berlin and Leipzig, Rudzinski later lived in Chemnitz.[1]
