Alexandra R. Paul, MD, FAANS is an American neurosurgeon. She is Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Albany Medical Center, where she also serves as Associate Program Director of the Neurosurgery Residency, Program Director of the Neuro-Endovascular Fellowship, and Director of Neurosurgical Research and Clinical Trials.[1][2]

Biography

Paul grew up in Saratoga Springs, New York, and graduated from Saratoga Springs High School.[1] She earned a BA in Biology and Spanish from Union College in 2007, and an MD from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2011.[2] She completed her neurosurgery residency and endovascular fellowship at Albany Medical Center in 2018.[2]

She is the only female neurosurgeon in the Department of Neurosurgery at Albany Med.[1] In addition to her clinical practice in cerebrovascular and endovascular surgery, she is site Principal Investigator for national trials including ENRICH, FRED X PAS, WEB PAS, and EMBOLISE.[1][2]

In 2025 Paul was recognized as a Woman of Excellence in the Professions by the Capital Region Chamber.[1][3] She has also appeared on WAMC’s Medical Monday to discuss neurosurgery and cerebrovascular health.[4][5]
