Alexis Warr Burton (born June 6, 2000) is an American Latin ballroom dancer. She is most known for being the winner of the 17th season of So You Think You Can Dance, as well as being a troupe dancer on the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars.

Early life[edit]

Daughter of Doug and Wendy Warr, Alexis was raised alongside her brothers Josh, Taylor and Jake and sister Jessica in Highland, Utah. From the age of 6, she trained in ballet, contemporary, hip hop, jazz, tap, gymnastics and ballroom at the Center Stage Performing Arts Studio in Orem,[1] specifically pursuing ballroom at 13-years-old. On November 2, 2018, Warr married her high school sweetheart, Jacob Burton.

Career[edit]

Warr's first notable TV appearance came at the age of 17, as part of the eight-member Latin Ballroom dance group The Pulse, which competed on the second season of NBC's World of Dance, in the Junior Team division. Although The Pulse was eliminated during The Cut round, Warr caught the eye of judge Derek Hough, himself a Center Stage alumnus, who reached out to the school's artistic director for information. On February 20, 2019, Warr was announced as part of the cast of Hough's live dance tour for that year, alongside fellow World of Dance competitors Daniella Karagach and Charity Anderson.

On July 6, 2021, Warr and So You Think You Can Dance alumna JJ Rabone were confirmed as part of Dancing with the Stars professional dancers Maksim and Valentin Chmerkovskiy's Stripped Down tour.[2] On September 1 of the same year, she announced she would be reprising her partnership with Hough, this time dancing in his No Limit residency at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Warr would also perform as one of the back-up dancers in Hough's Tango of the Dead routine, performed during the Horror Night episode of the 30th season of Dancing with the Stars. Starting from January 8, 2022, Warr was featured as a swing for the Dancing with the Stars: Dare to Be Different live tour, which ran until March 27 of the same year.

So You Think You Can Dance[edit]

After several unsuccessful attempts in previous years, Warr signed up to audition for the 17th season of So You Think You Can Dance in 2022. For her audition, she performed alongside Ezra Sosa, who finished in the previous season's Top 6, to Alex Newell & DJ Cassidy's "Kill the Lights", receiving unanimous praise from judges JoJo Siwa, Stephen "tWitch" Boss and Matthew Morrison, advancing to the subsequent Choreography Round. On June 15, she was revealed to have made the season's Top 12, initially paired with contemporary dancer Keaton Kermode. Warr and Kermode would eventually go on to become the season's Top 2, with Warr being declared the winner on August 10, making history as the first ballroom dancer to win the show.

Dancing with the Stars[edit]

Immediately after her victory on So You Think You Can Dance, Warr was invited to join the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars, doing so as part of the newly reinstated dance troupe, which also featured Ezra Sosa, Kateryna Klishyna, and D'Angelo Castro.[3]

On September 28, prior to the season's second live show, Warr received a last-minute call[4] informing her that pro dancer Daniella Karagach had been tested positive for COVID-19.[5] Warr consequently had to stand in for Karagach dancing with Joseph Baena for the second and third live shows, choreographing his Argentine tango for the latter.

From January 6 to March 12, Warr performed for the second time in the Dancing with the Stars live tour, this time as a principal dancer.
