Alf Terje Hana (born 1 October 1955) is an Norwegian jazz and rock guitarist, composer and bandleader.

Alf Terje Hana aka Athana[2], guitarist/composer living in Stavanger, Norway. Have played guitar since the late sixties, influenced by The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Santana, Weather Report, Gentle Giant, Jeff Beck. Been a bandleader in groups like Wasaband 70/80, Timebeat 90, and since year 2000 in the groundbreaking Athana[3]. By journalists often compared to Robert Fripp, Jeff Beck and so on…”impossible to pinpoint a genre”, “one of the most distinctive guitarplayer in our region”. Since 2005 there have been twelve Athana[4] releases.

2013 8 March. Performed with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and guest Stewart Copeland, former drummer of the great band The Police, an evening with the music of Athana. Orchestrated by Helge Sunde and Reid Gilje and conducted by Nick Davies. Later released on [5], with massive support from Stavanger Kommune.

The Athana[6] is a trio with following members: Alf Terje Hana - guitar, electronics Torgeir Nes - electronics Øyvind Grong - bass, voice, tuba

At the same time being very active and in demand as a sideman in lots of projects. Have contributed on more than 80 albums. Also involved in film soundtracks and commercial scores. A few of collaborating artists: Sidsel Endresen, Eivind Aarset, Andrew D'Angelo, Mungolian Jetset, Sternklang, Lingouf, Überzone, Werner Cee, Guttorm Andreasen, Dennis Desantis, Randi Tytingvåg, Stewart Copeland, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Gary Husband to name a few.

The atmosphere of electro/acoustics and experimentation are where the foundation for the Athana[7] sound derives itself. Which allows for more opportunities to perform in other contexts/bands/shows/performances. Active projects: [8], Athana/Andreasen, [9], Astrid Kloster, Sonarophon, Torrent, Werner Cee “Toxic Skies Orchestra”.

Teaching guitar at different levels at AKKS Stavanger 2009-12.

Worked at Rogaland Teater autumn 2011 in the play “MOR”, featuring Randi Tytingvåg and Sally Nilsson.

A signature run of guitar effects made in USA by Dave Wireman. “Athana Signature Overdrive” and Distortion.

Performed and composed music for the spectacular event “Tou Tower” with 48 guitarplayers in a 15 meter high scaffold rig in 2011.

Same project performed in Oslo June 2013 in the “Ny Musikk Festival”..

Athana played the opening gig at Numusic festival Stavanger 2011, at Folken.

Part of the opening week of Stavanger Concerthouse, with a special piece of music performed outdoor with 30 drum&perc students from Vågen Videregående Skole September 2012.Fittings & Flanges.

Collaborating with the German multi-artist Werner Cee since 2012, with touring Germany, recording, and working on new projects. Released a double album in 2015, and presented the new material in Maskinhallen Tou Scene. Athana/Werner Cee “Toxic Skies Orchestra”. Also a concept featuring Giovanni Apprendi and Gaspare Balsamo from Sicily called Torrent.

2016 new album “Invisible Colors” released receiving fab reviews. Featuring greats as Stewart Copeland and Gary Husband.

Gary Husband is also coming on tour with Athana in 2018 alongside Jody Linscott on percussion.

Alf Terje Hana is also being asked to be a part of Gary’s new line-up as a guitarplayer. Gary Husband’s Trackers 2018.

June 2017. Received a grant from Stavanger Kommune Culture Dept. for future projects.
