Alfred Galichon
Alfred Galichon (born in Paris May 4, 1977) is a French economist, mathematician, and educator, who is currently a professor at New York University’s Courant Institute, and the director of NYU’s academic center in Paris. His research revolves around economics, computation and data science, and focuses on models of pricing and resource allocation. He is a laureate of the Edmond Mallinvaud Prize.
Biography
Alfred Galichon holds an engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique.[1], from which he graduated 3rd of his cohort[2], granting him admission into Corps des Mines [3] in 2000. After a brief professional experience at Goldman Sachs, Air France and Lafarge Cement, he studied at Harvard University, where he earned a PhD in economics in 2007[4].. He started his academic career as an assistant professor at Ecole Polytechnique, becoming a full professor in 2012. He was then a professor at Sciences Po (2012-2015) and he has been since then a professor at New York University in the departments of economics (Arts and Science) and mathematics (Courant Institute). Since 2018 he is also the director of NYU Paris. Galichon has received numerous awards for his research and leadership. In 2011 he was nominated for the Prize of the Best Young Economist in France by Le Monde and the Cercle des Économistes. In 2015 he was awarded the Edmond Mallinvaud prize by the AFSE[5]. In 2018, he was selected among the French "Young Leaders" of the French-American Foundation[6]. In 2019 he was made an Economic Theory Fellow[7]. His research has been funded twice by the European Research Council [8] · [9], and also by the National Science Fundation [10], in an cumulated amount of about 3 M$.
Research
Alfred Galichon has authored or co-authored about 40 research papers published in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Political Economy, the Review of Economic Studies, Econometrica, and the Annals of Statistics. He is the co-inventor of vector quantile regression, a multivariate estimation method, of the affinity approach to matching estimation and of the mass transport approach to demand inversion. He is one of the pioneers of the martingale transport theory. He has also published two monographs:

Alfred Galichon has designed the ‘math+econ+code’ masterclass series, an innovative approach to teaching topics at the frontier of mathematics, economics and computer science, problem-based and data-oriented, modelled after cooking classes[14].
