Alfredo Gonzalez (baseball)
Alfredo González (born September 17, 1979 in Nagua, Dominican Republic) is a former Minor League Baseball pitcher. He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers organization from 1998 to 2005, for the Sinon Bulls in the Chinese Professional Baseball League from 2006 to 2007, and for the Texas Rangers organization in 2008.
Gonzalez was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1997 and was with the Dodgers organization from 1998 to 2005. By late 2002, Gonzalez was regarded as a "dark-horse candidate" to make the Dodgers' roster, featuring a pitch that Bill Bavasi described as "a change-up from hell."[1] In early 2003, Gonzalez was ranked by Baseball America as the Dodgers' # 7 prospect.[2] In July 2003 the Dodgers called him up to serve as the mopup man when Kevin Brown was injured.[3] However, a few days later he was optioned to Las Vegas without having played a game.[4] In 2005 he pitched 46 games for the Class AAA Las Vegas 51s, all in relief, where he had a 2–2 record and 4.91 ERA.[5]
In 2006 he signed with the Sinon Bulls in the Chinese Professional Baseball League[6] where he continued playing in 2007.[7]
Gonzalez signed with the Texas Rangers for the 2008 season and played for the Class AA Frisco RoughRiders, where he went 5–2 with a 4.78 ERA.[5][8] He was released by the Rangers before the start of the 2009 season.[9]
