Biography[edit]

Faqeer Ali Muhammad Gilkar Sahab (فقیر علی محمد گلکار صاحب) was a Kashmiri Sufi saint in the 20th century.[citation needed]

Gilkar Sahab was born Ali Muhammad Khar, in Meer Mohalla, Nowhatta Srinagar, Kashmir. He is the son of Ustad Ghulam Muhammad Gilkar alais Khar. He had three brothers and two sisters. His elder brother was about eight years old when his father Buzurgwar died. He was brought up by his mother and grandmother. Ali Sahab began to work at very little age with his brothers and earn to living together. He always looked for honesty in his hard work and once a contractor rewarded him with two wooden boats for doing the job properly and honestly.[citation needed]

He used to visit shrines, dervishes and teachers, apparently He became the deciple of Mir Ghulam Sahib Andrabi, He took him in outward training and trained him. Apart from these, whatever spirituality insight you have got, you have got only by the grace of the saints. Gilkar Sahab wrote a book Kaleed-e-Ludni on Spirituality to enlighten the minds of people. He choose the poetry of few Kashmiri Sufi saints namely: Shamas Faqir Saeb, Niama Saeb, Mumin Saeb, Soch Kral Saeb, Qadir Saeb kehnai, Rahim Saeb Sopore, Rahman Dar Saeb, Prakash Ram Saeb, Lalleshwari (Lal Ded) and Nund Reshi (Hazrat Sheikh-ul Aalam). The number of followers of Gilkar Sahib and his companions is not possible because people of all Dharmas (Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs or Christians) used to come and go with Him. And they all quenched their thirst for knowledge of Muar’fat. Gilkar Sahib’s Mysticism has spread throughout the Kashmir Valley in such a way that it will continue till the Day of Judgment.[citation needed]

Shrine[edit]

His shrine is located at Jubgari Malkhah opposite the Nawhatta police station. Urs Mubarak of Gilkar Sahab is celebrated on June 29 every year in Srinagar.[citation needed]
