Shopless is an online marketplace platform for Kiwis, based in Wellington, New Zealand. It was founded in Sep 2018 by Hooman Bahreini.[1]
Shopless is a generic marketplace (as opposed to specialized platform in careers or real estate) and its categories cover most of the products that are traded online (classified, motors, jobs, real estate, services and community). Listing products on the platform is free, however they do charge for promotion.[2]
History[edit]
Hooman Bahreini started developing Shopless platform in the late 2016. The website is written in ASP.NET MVC[3] and is hosted on AWS. Shopless website went live in June 2018,[4] however Hooman found it extremely difficult to attract people to use the platform and grow it's community. They tried several different approaches until they realized that they best way to build a community is to approach small businesses and works their way up the chain.[5] Shopless reached 2000 listing milestone in Jan 2021[6]

Shopless is a social enterprise, the company donates 20% of its revenue to charities who fight against climate change and/or help refugees. The charities and NGOs that work with Shopless are:
