Ali Ahmed Palh is a Pakistani politician, lawyer and human rights advocate from Sindh who is currently serving as General Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s Sindh chapter since 3 March 2024.
Early life and education
Ali Palh claims to have completed a Masters in Human Rights from the Center for Human Rights and Social Development, Mahidol University, in Thailand in 2007 and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Law College Hyderabad, Sindh University. Ali completed his Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in international law from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy at Tufts University, in the United States. He also did a course in criminal law from the Harvard Law School.[1]
Human rights and legal advocacy
Ali Palh is the leader of the group RightsNow Pakistan (RNP), a civil society organization for human rights, and has advocated for human rights and better living conditions in Sindh.[1] He advocated for better conditions for peasants in Sindh and stated that grueling labour is extracted from the peasants for inadequate earnings. Palh has suggested that the landlords should pay for the registration of peasants in Employees Old Age Benefit Institution.[2] He also filed a petition in the University of Sindh Naila Rind death case in the Sindh High Court stating that Naila Rind was murdered and did not take her own life.[3] He has also held protests against extrajudicial blasphemy killings.[4] He also claims to have worked in Sri Lanka as an unarmed civilian peacekeeper and later coordinator for the human rights defenders project with a nonviolent peace force.[1]
Political career
He was made Additional General Secretary of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s Sindh leadership in February 2022, after a notification signed by Asad Umar reorganized the party's Sindh leadership.[5] He was appointed as General Secretary of PTI in Sindh on 3 March 2024. He contested the Sindh Assembly seat PS-103 Karachi East-VII as a candidate of PTI in the 2024 Sindh provincial election.
