Aliblu Airways is a defunct airline based in Italy. Founded in 1986, the airline's main hub was located at Naples Capodichino airport. The air carrier ceased operations due to bankruptcy.
History
Aliblu Airways was founded in Naples on December 22, 1986, to operate regional flights from southern Italy to the rest of the country and later also abroad. ALI-Aero Leasing Italiana (Eugenio Bontempo) held a 60% stake in the company.[1] Operations were marketed through Alitalia (a 10% shareholder), while technical assistance was provided by ATI-Aero Trasporti Italiani. The logo depicted a stylized peregrine falcon, a restless bird characterized by rapid and frequent movements throughout the Mediterranean basin. The company, which was led by Eugenio Bontempo, began scheduled flights on June 16, 1987, with four 18-seater British Aerospace Jetstream 31 aircraft. The flight network included 18 Italian and international destinations, with Naples and Rome as its main hubs.[2][3] There was no flight attendant on board and there was self-service cabin service. Due to modest results, over the following years, some destinations were gradually removed, and the company was forced to operate domestic routes in codeshare with Alitalia. Aliblu Airways ceased operations between 1989 and 1990 and then declared bankruptcy.[4]
