Alim Ahet (Uyghur: ئالىم ئەھەت, Chinese: 阿里木.艾海提) is the founder of UighurSoft, which is the earliest and well-known software company in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. He was one of the most talented and well-known Uyghur computer engineer in the region, widely known as "the Uyghur Bill Gates" among the Uyghur community. He developed and published the first commercial spell-checker, dictionary and input method of Uyghur and other minority languages including Kazak and Kirgiz. In 2008, he was awarded as one of the top 100 IT young professional of China. In 2011, he was awarded by the Chinese authority as "One of the top ten innovators of China" (Chinese: 第十二届中国时代十大创新人物). He is a member of the National Youth League IT Youth Association and a member of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Youth Federation Youth Science and Technology Workers Association.[1]
He was also an educator. He was a lecturer of the School of Mathematics and System Science of Xinjiang University. Outside the campus, he is spreading IT knowledge via developing software such as "computer school" series and online courses.
He was also one of the most respected Uighur TV celebrities, regularly appearing on television shows, spreading knowledge about IT and life success. In 2017, he was one of the top head judges in the regional television programme called "Sweet Dreams" series.
Early life[edit]
He was born in Shaya County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on June 14, 1973. He starts programming when he is 17 years old. He graduated from the Mathematics Department of Xinjiang University in July 1996. His major is computational mathematics. He earned his master degree in Computer Software Engineering. He was a teacher of the School of Mathematics and System Science of Xinjiang University, In June 1998, he founded the UighurSoft, and served as chairman, software designer, and general manager.[2]
Disappearance[edit]
He is believed sent to the re-education camps in 2018[3] [4]. Since then, his personal blog and the website of Uighursoft are inaccessible. His online dictionary www.udict.cn [5] is still open to use, however, Turkish and Arabic dictionary are removed from it. Publish a Turkish and Arabic online dictionary might be the main reason for his detainee.
