Alistair Vigier (born March 15, 1990) is a British-Canadian businessman best known for his role in creating ClearwayLaw, a website that is the Commenwealth answer to Avvo.com in the United States, a company that sold for $1 billion. Clearway has attracted a lot of success but also controversy. [1] [2]

Personal life[edit]

Vigier was born in Toronto, Canada. When he was nine years old he moved to Victoria, British Columbia. He is a Mount Douglas Secondary School alumnus. Vigier holds a dual citizenship for the UK and Canada.

In 2009 while deployed with the Canadian military, Vigier was shot on operation. In 2014, Vigier medically released from the Canadian Forces. [3]

After high school, he got a bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Victoria. He also attended law school at the University of Birmingham in the UK. He decided to go into the legal technology space instead of becoming a lawyer.

Vigier reportedly won the civic service award from the Victoria Police Department for stopping a thief from stealing a car at the Union Club of BC. [4]

As of 2023 he is married with no children.

Career[edit]

Vigier first got introduced into the business world by The Commissionaires. Vigier joined Commissionaires Victoria in 2011 where he played a key role on the marketing and business development team until 2014. The company said on their website "He had an excellent experience with the team and used the knowledge and insight that he gained to foster his entrepreneurial spirit." [5]

After leaving the Commissionaires, Vigier entered into the legal industry in 2015. He joined as a consultant a firm called HART Legal.

HART Legal had three law firms at the time, and after Vigier raised around $1.2m for the law firm. [6]

Vigier was awarded the 30 under 30 award from BC Business for his work with HART Legal.[7] He left HART Legal in 2017.

In 2018, Vigier started ClearwayLaw, which was a law firm in Toronto until 2020.

In 2020 ClearwayLaw became an online legal community, and ceased being a law firm.
