Aliyu Abdullahi Sumaila' is a Nigerian accountant, financial analyst, politician[3] and financial manager. He was the fourth Managing Director of Dala Building Society PLC, the premier mortgage bank in Northern Nigeria in the 1990s[4][5]
As an investment banker, he presided over the introduction of the first Halal investment fund in Nigeria.[6][7][8] He also introduced non interest fintech instruments [9]

Sumaila is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Executive Management Program and the University of Essex's Entrepreneurship programme. He has a M.Sc. degree in banking and finance, Masters in Business Administration degree, B.Sc. degree in business administration from Bayero University Kano and a PhD. Honoris Causa.[10]

Sumaila worked in the banking industry for more than 30 years. He was managing director of Dala Building Society PLC, and was executive director of Suntrust Bank, where he managed the Bank's business development division, he also served on the board of directors of Chaste Capital Limited, Aurum Nigeria Limited, Indepth Metropolis PLC, Haydar Consulting, Cornerstone Halal Takaful Insurance, Aurora Specialist Hospital, Indepth Markets Limited, Indepth Sports Limited, Sauda Voyager Nigeria Limited, A.A. Sumaila & Sons Limited, Saymar Bread, Ramy Palace Nigeria Limited, Saymar Restaurant, Nigerian Egyptian Specialist Hospital (NESH) and Sun Trust Savings & Loans (now SunTrust Bank Nigeria Limited) for four years.[1]
He was Chief Operating Officer (COO) UYK Nigeria Limited, Head of Northern Region Cornerstone Insurance PLC, Head Kano Region Lotus Capital Limited, Head Kano Branch Gidauniya Investment and Securities Limited, Examination Officer/Lecturer Bayero University Kano, Business Administration Department and Part time lecturer at the Kano State Polytechnic, Commercial Officer Kano State Television Corporation, served his National Youth Service Corps at First Bank of Nigeria and Abdu Abdurrahim &Co., he was also National Vice President (North West)/ Kano State Chairman Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria and an investment manager at the Kano State Investment and Properties Limited.[17][18][19][1][10] Member Social Democratic Party, Member United Nigeria Congress Party, Member People's Democratic Party, Member Congress for Progressive Change, Member All Progressives Congress, Member People's Redemption Party.In 2015, he was the deputy gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Movement in Kano.[20][21]
