He is founder and director of the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation Design Lab, known for producing award-winning[1] products for humanitarian bomb disposal.[2] Allen is one of the foremost proponents for STEM education in Cambodia,[3][4][5] having founded STEM Cambodia Organization, a non-profit promoting STEM careers to Cambodian youth, which hosts the country’s largest annual STEM event in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (Cambodia). He is also co-founder and CEO of Cushybots Corporation, a US robotics startup and Al’s Tacos, an original Cambodian fast food company inspired by Southern California-style tacos.[6][7]
Life and career[edit]
Allen began his career in the US Army as an Infantryman before joining the explosive ordnance disposal profession. Following his tours to Afghanistan and Iraq, he began work in the Kingdom of Cambodia for the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation as the country director,[8] eventually founding the Golden West Design Lab with MIT professor J. Kim Vandiver.[9] As a product designer, Allen is known for his work utilizing vanguard technologies such as 3D printing, virtual reality and augmented reality.[10]
In 2014, Allen started the Cambodia Science and Engineering Festival under the mentorship of USA Science and Engineering Festival founder and American Entrepreneur Larry Bock together with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (Cambodia).[11] Following the first festival, he became one of the most public proponents for the advancement of STEM education in the Kingdom of Cambodia.[12]
After establishing multiple local and international businesses, Allen was elected as Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce Cambodia. During his tenure as Chairman, he has been a public advocate for increased business ties between the United States and the Kingdom of Cambodia, taking a public stance against punitive trade actions.[13][14]
In November, 2017, Cambodian pop star Adda Angel publicly announced their romantic relationship.[15]
