Allocoprobacillus is a monotypic genus of Gram-positive, facultatively anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria in the family Erysipelotrichaceae.[2] Its only recognized species and type species is Allocoprobacillus halotolerans.[1][3] The type strain, LH1062T (= DSM 114537T = NCTC 14686T), was isolated from a human fecal sample.[3]
Characteristics
The published phenotypic description is based on the single type strain. Cells are rod-shaped and occur in chains. The strain is catalase-negative and oxidase-negative, and it forms hemolytic colonies. Colonies grown on brain heart infusion agar for 48 hours are circular, smooth, shiny, and approximately 0.3–0.4 mm in diameter.[3][2]
It grows well at 30–40 °C and weakly at 45 °C. The strain tolerates media containing 1–20% sodium chloride, although growth is delayed at concentrations of 7–20%. The predominant cellular fatty acid is C16:0.[3]
The type strain has a genome of approximately 2.9 megabases (Mb) with a G+C content of 31.3 mol%.[3]
Taxonomy and name
The generic name combines the Greek words allos, meaning another or different, and kopros, meaning feces, with the Latin bacillus, meaning a small rod. The species epithet halotolerans means salt-tolerating.[1]
