Allyson Newman is an Australian film and television composer based in Los Angeles. She is best known for her scores to Partner Track (Netflix, 2022), The L Word: Generation Q (Showtime, 2019-2021), First Day (Hulu, 2022) and Kusama: Infinity (2018).

Early life and education[edit]

Allyson Newman was born and raised in Australia. She got her Masters degree in composition from Sydney Conservatorium of Music. She then moved to Los Angeles and received an MFA in Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California.[1]. She has been awarded both an Australia Council for the Arts Grant and an Australian Guild of Screen Composers Award[2] for her work in film music.

Career[edit]

Allyson’s career in music began with writing music for feature film Watermark[3] screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

Since then, Allyson has scored over 100 projects, including feature films, TV series, short films and more. In 2015 Allyson scored the multi award winning documentary feature Limited Partnership that premiered on PBS Independent Lens[4]. The following year she scored Her Story (2016), the Emmy nominated media series[5].

In 2017, She participated in the BMI Conducting Workshop.

In 2018, Allyson scored Kusama-Infinity which premiered at Sundance[6] and was released theatrically around the world.

In 2019, Allyson composed the score State of Pride which opened the SXSW Film[7]. For this score, Allyson collaborated with Oscar Winning directors Jeffrey Friedman and Rob Epstein. Later that same year, she scored A Woman’s Work: The NFL’s Cheerleader Problem which had its premiere at Tribeca[8] and Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound which premiered at Cannes[9]

In 2022 Allyson scored First Day (2022) on HULU. Currently Allyson is co-scoring the television series The L Word Generation Q on Showtime with Heather McIntosh[10]. She is also scoring the Netflix series Partner Track, which will be released in August 2022[11].
