The Alor Trilogy, written by Pakistani author Mujeeb Burdi, marks his debut in novel writing after gaining recognition for plays in his native language.[1] Comprising three novels, the trilogy offers a fictionalized take on historical events in Sindh during the late sixth and early seventh centuries.[2]

The central focus of the storyline is the historical moment when Muhammad ibn al-Qasim defeated Raja Dahar, leading to the expansion of the Umayyad Empire around A.D. 711 or 712. The narrative follows three main characters: Chach, Dahar, and Muhammad bin Qasim (Kasim in the story).[3]

The name "Alor" refers to the original form of "Aror," a town in Sindh, Pakistan, identified as the capital during the seventh century according to historical sources like the Chachnamah.[4]

While the Alor Trilogy has received positive reviews since its recent publication, it is admitted that it still has to gain significant recognition. It's worth noting that a similar historical novel in Urdu was authored by Naseem Hijazi in 1950[5], predating the Alor Trilogy.

Positioned as an English language fiction initiative from Sindh, the Alor Trilogy provides an account of historical events in seventh-century Sindh. Beyond its literary merit, the trilogy serves as an effort to disseminate the historical narrative of the region, contributing to the broader discourse on the history of Sindh and aiming to bridge the cultural and historical understanding between the region and the rest of the world.
