Alpha Academy Public High School (abbreviated as AAPGHS) is a co-educational secondary and higher secondary institution located in Banasree, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The school offers education from kindergarten (KG) level up to class XII, following both Bengali and English versions of the national curriculum. It is affiliated with the Ministry of Education (Bangladesh) and approved by the Dhaka Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.[1]
History
Alpha Academy Public High School was founded on 1 August 2010 by Waqub Ahmed Bhuiyan, who has served as chairperson since its establishment.[1] The institution was created with the vision of providing quality education to students in the rapidly developing residential area of Banasree, Dhaka. Initially starting with a few hundred students, the school expanded its facilities to accommodate both primary and higher secondary levels.
Since 2023, the principal of the institution has been Sharif Ahmed Chowdhury, who introduced several academic and co-curricular reforms.[1]
Academics
The institution provides education from KG to class XII. Students are taught under both Bengali and English versions of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).[1]
Admission
Admissions in KG and class I are primarily conducted through a lottery system. For other grades, entry is through competitive admission tests, followed by an oral assessment if shortlisted. Admission to the college section (XI–XII) follows the government-regulated procedure, based on Secondary School Certificate (SSC) results.[1]
Curriculum and Streams
Students can pursue science, humanities, or business studies in the higher secondary section. Regular assessments, extracurricular activities, and club-based projects are integrated with classroom teaching.
Shifts
The school operates morning and day shifts to accommodate both male and female students.
Campus
The AAPGHS campus covers 3.64 acres and includes dedicated buildings for the school and college sections. Facilities consist of science laboratories, a library, computer labs, a basketball court, and a central playground. The institution also publishes its own annual magazine *অন্তরলোক* to encourage literary and creative expression among students.[1]
Co-curricular activities
AAPGHS emphasizes holistic education by organizing debates, cultural programs, sports competitions, and science fairs. Clubs such as the Debate Club, Science Club, and Language & Literature Club are active in the school. Annual cultural and sports weeks are considered highlights of the student calendar.[1]
Governance
The school is governed by a managing committee headed by the chairperson. Academic activities are overseen by the principal along with faculty coordinators for each section.
