Alqi Bllako, was born in Kolonjë, on May 10, 1987.
Bio
He has a diverse career in the private sector, public service, and teaching. He completed his higher studies at New York University, Tirana, as well as several postgraduate studies, such as a Master of Science in Finance and Accounting from New York University and an MBA in Banking and Financial Markets, in collaboration with the Institute Kurt Bosch in Switzerland. He graduated from all three schools with maximum results as an outstanding student. During this period, Alqi Bllako was awarded the First Prize by the Governor of the Bank of Albania for his work, “The role of corporate income tax on capital structure: data on the Albanian economy,” considered a valuable academic contribution. Bllako has been praised and commended by leading academic experts in the field of finance and has contributed as an Internal and External Lecturer at New York University in Tirana in the subjects: Corporate Finance, International Finance, Financial Accounting, as well as Management Accounting.
Political career
Bllako has had successful managerial experience at management levels in the private sector and in the public sector in central government institutions. He has been the head of important sectors in international telecommunications companies in Albania. He has been the representative of Albania in numerous International Conventions and has been distinguished for his contribution and active engagement in civil society.
From 2013 to 2017 he worked as secretary general in the Ministry of Environment, where he initiated and led important administrative and political reforms, successfully contributing to the challenge of increasing the performance of this ministry and guaranteeing the path to a sustainable development of the Albanian environment. With the signing of the Paris Agreement, Mr. Bllako has also served as the national delegating authority in relations with the Climate Fund, as well as focal points for the Convention on Biological Diversity, where he played an active role in the intergovernmental auxiliary body of this convention: Auxiliary Body for Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice.
Since 2019, he has been leading the Water Supply and Sewerage and Infrastructure Agency, where under his leadership the vital water sector underwent radical changes throughout Albania; from Malësia e Madhe to Konispol, guaranteeing that in just 2 years (2019–2021), 200 construction sites were opened in the country to guarantee uninterrupted water supply for 55 urban areas and more than 300 rural areas. He is fluent in English and Italian and has a very good knowledge of Turkish. In the parliamentary elections of 2021, Alqi Bllako is running for deputy for the Socialist Party, as a representative of Unit 1, Tirana.
