Alternative Airlines is a travel fare aggregator website, based near Gatwick Airport, in the UK.[2] [3] The website is an IATA-bonded and ATOL protected agency.[4] The company made the list of Sunday Times Fast Track 100 in 2019.[3]

The Alternative Airlines website displays flight search results in real time from over 600 airlines. After searching and comparing flights, users can then book their flights through the Alternative Airlines platform. The Alternative Airlines site was founded with the aim of offering customers an easy way to book flights on smaller regional airlines around the world,[1] to help travellers discover remote locations.

History[edit]

Alternative Airlines was founded in 2007, with the launch of its site: www.alternativeairlines.com.[3]

In 2015, users were able to use PayPal to pay for flights through the Alternative Airlines website for the first time.[1]

In 2018, Affirm[5] and Amazon Pay[6] [7] were also made available as payment options.

In 2018, a Spanish version of the Alternative Airlines site was also launched: es.alternativeairlines.com.[8]

In 2019, Klarna was also added as a payment option for European customers buying flights through the Alternative Airlines website.[9]

As of September 2019, users can choose to pay for flights from over 25 payment methods and 160 currencies.[3][10]

Awards and recognition[edit]

Alternative Airlines was the only travel agency in 2019 to be on the Sunday Times list of most successful companies in the United Kingdom, landing 93rd place.[3]
