Introduction[edit]
Ambarish Bhattacharya is a Bengali film, web, and television actor. He has also starred in many national TVCs. He started his theatre career in the early 2000’s, working with veteran actress Ketaki Dutta and singing theatre songs. He rose to fame with his television debut in the 2007 television show “Raja & Goja: Bindas Moja” and has been part of several Bengali films, tv and web projects ever since.[1]
Early Life[edit]
Ambarish grew up in a cultural household and ambiance in Kolkata where he was first introduced to the practice and appreciation of art, music, and theatre, primarily from his father, Abani Bhattacharya.[2]
Education[edit]
After completing his schooling from Calcutta Boys School, Ambarish graduated in English Honors from Manindra Chandra College, Kolkata.
Career[edit]
Following his early career years in theatre in the early 2000’s and being part of group theatres, Ambarish forayed into Bengali television where he garnered huge popularity with his debut fiction comedy series “Raja & Goja: Bindas Moja”, in which his character Goja became a household name.
Ambarish’s filmography began in 2011 and he has already worked with eminent directors like Kaushik Ganguly, Anjan Dutt, Srijit Mukherji, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, and others. “Open Tee Bioscope” by Anindya Chattopadhyay, “Uma” by Srijit Mukherji, Bibaho Obhijaan by Birsa Dasgupta and “Gotro” by Sibaprasad Mukherji-Nandita Roy are some of his noteworthy releases.[3]
Theatre:[edit]
In his early years, Ambarish worked with veteran thespian and singer ketaki Dutta from 2000 to 2003, singing and researching on the evolution of songs in theatre space from 1875 to the present day. In 2005, he started working in group theatres.
He has worked with the famous female impersonator Chapal Bhaduri performing the one-act play “Ekmukhi Shitala” with him from 2000 to 2006.[4]

Ambarish started his career in films in the year 2011 and in a span of just nine years; he has featured in as many as 35 films till date. His performance as a supporting actor has been lauded in films like “Uma”, “Gotro”, “Crisscross” and many more.[5]

Ambarish has an extensive career in television and web where he has worked in all formats ranging from mega serials, nonfiction comedy shows, stand ups, and web series. His debut television work in Raja & Goja: Bindas Moja received both popular and critical acclaim. He portrayed the legendary actor of yesteryears, Tarun Kumar in the 2016 biographical television series “Mahanayak”, based on the life of Superstar Uttam Kumar.
Ambarish has starred in several prominent regional and national television commercials (tvc) over the years, directed by Pradeep Sarkar and he has also shared screen space in a national advertisement for a finance company, alongside Amitabh Bachchan. He has starred in TVCs of nationally recognized brands like Dettol, Everest, Muthoot Finance, Bisk farm, and others.
