The Hong Kong Brand Toy Association Limited (HKBTA; Chinese: 香港品牌玩具協會), established on 11 June 2020, is a non-profit trade association representing toy brands and design companies in Hong Kong. It aims to promote the development and global visibility of the city's collectible toy industry.[1]
Activities and Objectives
The HKBTA states its mission is to unite local toy brands and designers, promote Hong Kong toy products internationally, facilitate communication with government institutions, and support innovation in the sector.[1] The association organizes participation in international trade exhibitions, such as those hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC),[2] and has collaborated on retail events, such as a Christmas toy show with MTR Corporation shopping malls.[3]
The HKBTA has been involved in initiatives funded by the Hong Kong government's Trade and Industrial Organisation Support Fund (TSF), focusing on technology upgrades and market exploration in Japan and Mainland China for the collectible toy industry.[4]
Historical Context
The association's establishment is situated within the evolution of Hong Kong's toy industry. Since the 1950s, Hong Kong has been a major player in global toy manufacturing. By the 1980s, it was one of the world's largest toy exporters. In recent decades, the industry has shifted from contract manufacturing to developing original brands and intellectual properties (IP).[5] According to HKTDC data, Hong Kong (including re-exports) was the world's fourth-largest toy exporter in 2021.[6]
Member Companies
The HKBTA's membership includes a range of Hong Kong-based toy companies and design studios. As of 2025, members listed in an industry directory associated with a TSF project include Hot Toys, threezero, How2work, and Kennyswork.[7]
