America America 2 is an upcoming Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film written, directed and produced by Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar. Based on the novel Kshame by Sahana Vijayakumar, the film stars Nirup Bhandari, Shanvi Srivastava, Pruthvi Ambaar in lead roles.[1][2]

Although the film shares its title with Chandrashekhar's 1997 film America! America!!, the director has clarified that it is not a sequel but a standalone story inspired by contemporary relationships and adapted from Sahana Vijayakumar's novel.[3][4]

The film marks Chandrashekhar's return to the America! America!! title nearly three decades after the release of the original film. It reunites him with composer Mano Murthy, while Nakul Abhyankar composed the background score.[5]

The film is scheduled to be released in September 2026.[6]

Plot

The film follows the emotional journey of a woman whose visit to the United States leads to an unexpected reunion with a significant person from her past. As unresolved emotions resurface, she is forced to confront questions of love, family, responsibility and second chances.[7]

Director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar first revealed plans for a new film carrying forward the America! America!! brand in 2025. Reports indicated that actor Ramesh Aravind would reunite with the director after several years for the project. At the time, Chandrashekhar clarified that the film would not be a sequel to his 1997 National Award-winning film America! America!!, but an independent story inspired by contemporary relationships.[9]

The project was officially announced in July 2026 under the title America America 2. Chandrashekhar stated that the film was inspired by Sahana Vijayakumar's novel Kshame and was conceived as a fresh narrative rather than a continuation of the original film. He explained that while the title evokes memories of America! America!!, the new film features an entirely different story and characters.[10][11]

Casting

Nirup Bhandari, Shanvi Srivastava and Pruthvi Ambaar were cast in the lead roles. Supporting roles are portrayed by Achyuth Kumar, Mandya Ramesh, Manasi Sudhir and Baby Ritu Singh.[12][13]

Filming

Principal photography took place in India and the United States. The film was shot across multiple locations in the United States to complement its narrative. Cinematography was handled by S. K. Rao, while editing was undertaken by Sri Crazy Mindz.[14]

Music

The soundtrack is composed by Mano Murthy, marking another collaboration between the composer and Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar. The background score is composed by Nakul Abhyankar. Chandrashekhar stated that music continues to play an integral role in the film's narrative, maintaining the melodic style associated with his earlier works.[15][16]

Marketing

The film was officially announced in July 2026 with the unveiling of its title at a press event in Bengaluru. During the announcement, director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar clarified that despite sharing its title with his 1997 film America! America!!, America America 2 is not a sequel but an independent story inspired by the novel Kshame by Sahana Vijayakumar.[17][18]

The title announcement introduced the principal cast, comprising Nirup Bhandari, Shanvi Srivastava, Pruthvi Ambaar . The filmmakers also confirmed that the film had completed principal photography and entered post-production.[19][20]

The first-look title poster was released through the production house's official social media platforms following the announcement event. The filmmakers subsequently announced that promotional material, including songs, teasers and trailers, would be released ahead of the film's theatrical release.[21]

As of July 2026, America America 2 has not been released. Critical reception will be available following its theatrical release.

The announcement of the film generated considerable media attention owing to its title's association with Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar's 1997 classic America! America!!.
