American Hat Makers, also known as Head’n Home Hats is a cut and sew hat manufacturer founded by Gary Watrous in 1972.[1] The company is based out of a 17,000 sq ft facility in Watsonville, California and specializes in handcrafting mens and womens hats spread across 8 different brands including Voodoo Hatter, Steampunk Hatter, Double G Hats, Ashbury Hats, American Outback Hats, Freedom Hats, and SolAir Hats. As of 2018, Gary’s son, Garth Watrous became primary owner and CEO of the company. American Hat Makers is a member of American Made Matters and the Headwear Association, of which Garth Watrous is the current president. The company has one complaint review on Ripoff Report.[2]

Gary Watrous started American Hat Makers in 1972 after finding success selling his handmade leather goods out of the back of his car. After making his first hat, he decided to apply his efforts to making leather hats full-time and over the next 46 years, grew the business into a worldwide wholesale exporter of leather hats. After over 42 years located on Gary’s ranch, the company needed more work space and moved to a larger facility located on Aviation Way in Watsonville, California.[3]

American Hat Makers has been seen alongside other brands such as Bailey and Kangol and has been worn by Hollywood actors, musicians, and other notable individuals.[4] [5] [6] American Hat Makers has been featured in fashion magazines such as Inkspired Magazine[7] and 303 Magazine[8] and television shows such as From Dusk till Dawn: The Series.
