The following is a list of American professional soccer players abroad who are playing in fully-professional leagues
The list includes American citizens who have acquired citizenship by any one of the following means:
- born in the United States
- born to an American parent
- naturalized citizens
- the Child Citizenship Act of 2000.
The list does not include the following players:
- Players who fall under one of the previous three categories, but have also played for another country's senior national team
- Players born in a foreign country who have one parent with American citizenship who did not meet residency requirements to pass along American citizenship to the player
- Players who have received permanent residence in the United States, but are not naturalized American citizens
This list includes only players who are playing abroad in a fully-professional league. It does not include players who are playing abroad in a league that is not fully-professional.
The list does not include the following leagues and teams:
- Players who are currently in a foreign club's youth system, but not in that club's first team (with the exception of players currently in a German club's reserve team in the Regionalliga)
- Players on Canadian teams that are in one of the top three U.S.-based leagues (MLS, NASL, and USL)
