Amjad Mahmood Chishti (Urdu: امجد محمود چشتی; born on 21 April 1972), is a satirical writer and an educationist. He has authored a number of books. Amjad's articles have been published in almost every major daily newspaper having nationwide circulation as well as digital media publications. He usually writes satire on politics, education and various social issues. However, some of his articles are based on factual research as well.

Furthermore, he has also been teaching for the past 25 years. In addition to that, he has established his own private charitable school named Allama Iqbal Model School in his village for the welfare of his neighbourhood.

Biography[edit]

Background[edit]

Amjad was born on 21 April 1972 in Chak No. 123/7ER Chishtia'n Wala, a small village near the bank of Ravi River near Mian Channu, Punjab in the Chishti family. His father, Muhammad Zafar Chishti, was a landlord and a farmer. Pir Fakhar ul Din was the first educationist in the same area and a very prominent figure during the 1960s.

Education[edit]

Amjad did his Matriculation from Government High School 2/8R, Mirzapur, Mian Channu, a government school in his native area in 1989. After that, he went to Government College Sahiwal for his Intermediate in 1990. Then he completed his B.A. from Government Degree College Mian Channu in 1993 and M.A. Political Science from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan in 1995. After a long gap, he did M.A. in Urdu in 2013 and M.Ed as well in 2015 from University of Sargodha.

Career[edit]

Amjad began his career as a teacher at FG Boys High School Okara Cantt where he had been teaching for almost five years from 1995 to 2000. He established his own charitable School in 2001 and after one year, he was appointed as SST in his own village in Government High School Chak No. 123/7ER Basti Dulluan and is still teaching there. It has been more than 25 years since he has been teaching.

He has authored four books as of now and another book is in the process of completion. His books include School Nagar Edition 1[1][2] (Urdu: اسکول نگر ایڈیشن 1; published by Gardezi Grafix & Printing in 2013), School Nagar Edition 2[3][4] (Urdu: اسکول نگر ایڈیشن 2; published by Gardezi Grafix & Printing in 2016), Deboya Mujhko Hony Ne[5] (Urdu: ڈبویا مجھ کو ہونے نے; published by Gardezi Grafix & Printing in 2017), Siyasat Ka Geografia[6][7][8] (Urdu: سیاست کا جغرافیہ; published by Marva Books in 2020). He is working on his new book, Urdu Be Adbi ke Mukhtasir Tareekh (Urdu: اردو بے ادبی کی مختصر تاریخ; Expected in 2022) which will hopefully be completed in 2022.

School Nagar Edition Series (Urdu: اسکول نگر ایڈیشن سیریز)[edit]

Amjad's satirical work is written primarily in Urdu. In 2013, he published his first book, School Nagar اسکول نگر.[9] The book is a humorous and witty comment on our education and school system. In this book, school is presented as a state having its four boundaries, situation, climate, population, wildlife, policies, constitutional sketch, and natural calamities, etc. After the success of this book and high demand from readers, School Nagar Edition 2 اسکول نگر[10] was published in 2016 which was a continuation of his first book but with some new topics.

Deboya Mujhko Hony Ne (Urdu: ڈبویا مجھ کو ہونے نے)[edit]

His third book, Diboya Mujhko Hony Ne ڈِبویا مجھ کو ہونے نے was published in 2017 and contains essays on the humor and seriousness. In this book, an attempt has been made to present man as the noblest of creatures, but still the most helpless. He has further highlighted the way human behavior, activities and actions have given birth to inequalities and as a result, man has become oppressive or oppressed. Being the son of Adam, the losses and the stains regarding humans are under discussion in both a serious and humorous way.

Siyasat Ka Geografia (Urdu: سیاست کا جغرافیہ)[edit]

His fourth book, Siyasat Ka Geografia سیاست کا جغرافیہ[11][12][13] was published in 2020. It is a satirical description of national history and politics beginning from 1947 independence till date. He has adopted an unconventional style. As he has been a political science student as well as a satirist, that is why this book presents a blend of the above-mentioned areas which certainly helps the reader understand his view regarding politics.

Urdu Be Adbi ke Mukhtasir Tareekh (Urdu: اردو بے ادبی کی مختصر تاریخ)[edit]

His upcoming book, Urdu Be Adbi ke Mukhtasir Tareekh (Urdu: اردو بے ادبی کی مختصر تاریخ), is currently in the process of completion and is expected to be published in 2022. In this book, he has briefly pointed out in a witty manner what sort of injustices have been done to Urdu language and literature and how it has been misused historically. It also gives an account of why Urdu has not been recognized as an international language.

Amjad's articles have been published in almost every major daily newspaper having nationwide circulation such as Daily Dunya, Nawaiwaqt, Express News etc. He usually writes satire on politics, education and various social issues. However, some of his articles are based on factual research as well. Some digital publications such as UrduPoint[14]  and HumSub[15] have also extensively published his articles from time to time. Other Interests[edit]

Amjad loves nature and that is why he is fond of gardening since his childhood. Furthermore, he used to be a very skillful cricket player and won numerous local tournaments. He also used to play cricket in Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan during his time there. Moreover, he used to develop hand made models of historical buildings with thermocol sheets. But as he grew older, he lost interest in most of his hobbies due to his busy schedule and other engagements.

Amjad is the only child of his parents. He is an introvert and has always avoided superficial appreciation as well as aimless gatherings and events.
