Amjad Qursha

Amjad Qursha (born in 1967) Jordanian Islamic preacher and professor at the University of Jordan. He is specialized in comparative religion and Western Islamic Relations. He graduated from the University of Birmingham in the UK. Qursha became famous for his remedial campaign against corruption in Jordan after the Arab Spring. He also has several television and radio shows which gained him reputation in Jordan and the Arab World.[1][2][3]

Education

He obtained his doctorate (concerning Quranic ethics compared to the ethical philosophies of some other religions, particularly Christianity) with a dissertation titled "A Muslim's Perspective Towards Han Kung's Concept of Global Ethic".

His master's degree was in Quranic interpretation from the University of Jordan. The dissertation topic was "The Linguistic Miraculous of the Holy Quran".

Qursha traveled to more than 110 cities worldwide.[4] He taught and lectured about Islam in both Arabic and English in many countries including the UK, Germany, the USA, Hungary, China, Hong Kong and Australia.[5]

Personal Life

Amjad Qursha is married and has four daughters and a son (Bayan, Leen, Jood, Juman, and Jawad).

Arrest

Jordanian authorities arrested him on June 14, 2016, for sharing a video (a year prior) criticizing Jordan's participation in the alliance against ISIS. Qursha stated in the video that arms and drug dealers, in addition to car theft gangs, were a greater threat to the country than ISIS.[6]

The State Security Court added charges of attempting to damage relations with a friendly nation by actions not permitted by the government.[7][8]

The arrest of Amjad Qursha generated angry reactions among young people on social media.[9]

He was released on September 6, 2016, on bail.
