Amol Karambe is an Indian filmmaker, documentary director, and author who primarily works in Marathi-language cinema and documentary filmmaking. He is known for the award-winning short film Kali Pili[1], several documentary projects, and the Marathi feature film Aranya[2] , which he wrote and directed.[3]
Early life
Amol Karambe grew up in Wadsa in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, India. His early environment in a region with dense forests and tribal communities has influenced his documentary and narrative sensibilities.[4] [5] [6]
Career
Documentaries and short films
Karambe has directed numerous documentary films, including works commissioned for government departments. His wildlife documentary An Enchanting Forest Land – Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary[7] gained notable viewership online. His short film Kali Pili was awarded Best Director[8] at the Pune International Short Film Festival.[3]
Feature films
Karambe wrote and directed the Marathi feature film Aranya, which was officially announced in 2025, Starring Hardeek Joshi[9][10][11] The film explores themes of family, redemption, and man–nature relationships. The film's poster was unveiled by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, generating significant local media attention.[12][13][14][15][16]
Author
In addition to his work in film, Karambe is an author. His Marathi novel Nirlajjam Sada Sukhi won the Maharashtra Ratna Award in 2021.[3] [17]
