Amr F. Zedan (born September 17, 1974) is a prolific [1]Saudi Arabian businessman,[2] energy consultant, industrialist,[3] technology start-up angel investor[4] and equestrian enthusiast.[5][6][7][8][9]
Family[edit]
The Zedan Family traces its origin back to the Islamic Holy city of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah region in the western province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Zedan's grandfather is Sheikh Mohammed bin Hussain Zedan, a prominent scholar in Saudi Arabia. He is considered a pioneer in Saudi Arabian literature, his legacy includes philosophy, prose and historic studies.
Zedan's father is H.E. Dr. Fareed M. Zedan, a professor and former Dean of Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals,[10] and former Governor of the Saudi Electricity and Co-generation Regulatory Authority.[11] having served two terms under the late Kings Fahad and Abdullah of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.[12][13]
Additional prominent family members include Zedan's uncles, H.E. Dr. Faisal M. Zedan, the former Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to Brussels, Belgium; H.E. Dr. Saud M. Zedan, the former Ambassador of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to South Africa; and H.E. Dr. Sami M. Zedan a current member of The Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, also known as Majlis Ash-Shura or Shura Council.
Early life and education[edit]
Zedan was born in Los Angeles while his parents were studying at the University of Southern California. Upon his parent’s graduation, they moved back to the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, where Zedan was raised and studied at Dhahran Ahliyya High School, upon which he was granted a scholarship by Saudi Aramco[14] to study engineering at Texas A&M University. He went on to graduate with an engineering degree from the University of the Pacific in 1997.[15]
Career[edit]
After his graduation, Zedan joined his father’s Engineering Business (Zedan Consultants) which later grew into today's The Zedan Group. Zedan led the transformation of his father’s electrical engineering firm, diversifying its activities from its previous focus on power to a broader energy group. The Zedan Group now consists of a number of companies[16] that focus on engineering, procurement and construction in the infrastructure and energy sectors with its main clients being governmental & quasi-governmental. The company successfully serves Saudi Arabia's energy requirements.
Equestrian Sports[edit]
Zedan is an avid polo player.[18] He is the Patron of Zedan Polo Team[19][20][21][22] and participates competitively in the international circuit.[23] He is the owner of Zedan Racing Stables[24] a thoroughbred horse racing stables based out of Lexington, Kentucky, United States.
