Amuda Goueli (fl. 1970)[1] is an Egyptian entrepreneur based in Spain. Goueli is known for his role as co-founder of Destinia.com, a company that pioneered the implementation of bitcoin payments in the European virtual travel agency market.[2] Apart from Destinia, Goueli has created other travel websites, such as Troovel, Onlinetravel and GlobalClick.

Biography[edit]

Early years, academic education and family[edit]

Goueli was born in the Egyptian city of Aswan, where he spent most of his childhood. After his ninth birthday, he moved to Cairo with his family to study at a school in the capital. In the mid-1980s. After living in several European countries, he settled in Spain permanently in 2000.[1][3][2]

As for his studies, Goueli began his university education in Egypt, where he earned a degree in engineering at the behest of his father. Once in Spain, he learned Spanish on a scholarship before pursuing a university degree in marketing. The businessman then completed his studies at IE Business School's International MBA program, from which he graduated with an MBA in 2011.[4][1][3]

As for his family, Amuda Goueli is the father of Spanish psychologist and politician Nagua Alba and son-in-law of the television producer Lolo Rico, also of Spanish nationality.

Professional Career[edit]

In January 2001, Goueli partnered with Australian musician Ian Webber to found Interhotel.com, a company that would later be renamed Destinia.com.[5][3] Destinia established itself as an online travel agency with a strong technology focus, becoming the first European company of its kind to accept bitcoin payments for a wide range of products.

In addition to his work as CEO of Destinia, Goueli is a member of the boards of the Spanish Association of Digital Economy[6] and the Business Union of Travel Agencies, as well as CEO of TOR Travel.[2] He has also been an expert in Tourism for the UNWTO since 2011[7] and is a member of the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies.
