An Opportunity is a student drama short film created by Kat Hansen and Ryanne Parker, starring Ryanne Parker, Alice Boyce, Connie Cavaliere, Kirsten Vanderspek, and Peyton Kennedy O'Neill.
In the short film "An Opportunity," Rory (Ryanne Parker), a sixteen-year-old non-binary theater student, is bullied at school. The teasing intensifies when their bully (Kirsten Vanderspek) discovers that Rory is playing a female lead in the school production and is forced to stage-kiss their crush. The movie focuses on Rory's response to bullying, losing their best friend (Connie Cavaliere), and hurting their relationship with their crush (Alice Boyce).

Production
On April 12, 2022, it was announced that Parker created the film with help from the Crystal Beacon Films production company. In the same announcement, Kat Hansen, Karley Saxon, Alice Boyce, Connie Cavaliere, Kirsten Vanderspek, Carly Cooper, Wrens, and Lindsay Carmichael were noted as cast and crew.[1] On the same day, the Kickstarter project launched, announcing the addition of Andrew Morales, Tenaya Frandsen, Peyton Kennedy O'Neill, and Lydia Bradstreet to the production. This also confirmed the roles of Hansen, Morales, Parker, Frandsen, Bradstreet, Boyce, Vanderspek, Cavaliere and O'Neill.
Production officially started on April 10th, though live filming did not begin until April 15th. An Instagram post on April 16th announced that they had reached 30% of their funding goal and confirmed the roles of Karley Saxon, Cooper, Wrens and Carmichael. This is the first press release no longer mentioning Bradstreet and she did not get credited in the film. Based on the credits and the Instagram post, it's inferred that Karley Saxon (originally a Key Grip) replaced Bradstreet. Bradstreet's reason for departure is unknown as of May 22nd, 2023.[2] On April 22nd, 2022, the production got its first external promotion through an Instagram post promoting their Kickstarter.[3] An Instagram story on April 24th, 2022, announced the last-minute casting of Lauren Mascardo in the film.
A Kickstarter update on May 5th, 2022 confirmed that the $650 goal had been hit and that filming had been finished. The fundraising project ended on May 7th, 2022 having raised US$806 for the film's budget. The production ended and film was finished September 8th, 2022, known through FilmFreeway account for the film made in the same month. The account also gave the full cast and crew for the film rounding it out to a total of seventeen people, with the final additions of Jeff Saxon, Cassandra Sonoda, and Jonathan Sonoda.[4]
The film's trailer was released on November 17th, 2022 and the film itself was released online on January 15th, 2023, both through Ryanne Parker's YouTube channel. The film received its first and only theatrical showing at the Los Angeles Youth Diversity Film Festival on March 4th, 2023. The film's festival run has not yet ended but as of May 22nd, 2023, the film has received one honorable mention, three official selections and one nomination (Best Student Short - Drama).[4]
