Ana Isabel Santiago Sánchez (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 18 June 1981), known as Anabel Santiago, is a Spanish tonada singer and politician. She began singing tonada at the age of 13. She was awarded Best Asturian Voice at the Silvino Argüelles Memorial in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006.

There is a street named after her at La Corredoria, a neighbourhood in Oviedo, in an urbanisation of streets named after great folk and Asturian traditional music singers. While most of the singers there had already died or were elderly when the streets were named, Anabel Santiago was only 19 years old.

Since 1995, she has won many tonada competitions, like the Concurso Ciudad de Oviedo, the Concurso de La Nueva España, the Concurso de El Comercio, the Concurso de Amieva, the Concurso de Tonada de Avilés or the Concurso Cuenca del Caudal. She was also hired by the government of Asturias to perform throughout Europe and Latin America, including Brussels, Geneva, Lausanne, Buenos Aires or Cuba.

En 1996, she made her first recordings along with some outstanding tonada singers. She began to be noticed in folk festivals such as Lorient or Folk Segovia. She also participated in the short film La neña de los mios güeyos (The Apple of My Eye) in 1999. In 2000, she made an important collaboration with Dixebra with the recording of Glaya un país (A Country Cries). In 2001, she edited her first album, in traditional style, entitled Tierra de sueños (Dreamland).

In 2003, Anabel Santiago released her second album, Al son de la lluna (To the Sound of the Moon), which had a great impact within the world of tonada and Asturian music, with songs like "A la mar vanse los ríos" (The Rivers Go to the Sea), "Cantar del home solu" (Song of the Lonely Man) or "Amor quién te tuviera" (Love, I Wish I Had You).

At this time she met Michael Lee Wolfe, an American musician and producer based in Asturias, with whom she began a collaboration that included several projects. In addition to her performances with the Asturiana Mining Company, Anabel Santiago was the lead singer in the Compañía Asturiana de Espectáculos during their following projects, such as Nel Camín (On the Road) or Torner. She also participated in the premiere of Camín a Xixón (Road to Gijón), in the Plaza Mayor in Gijón. In 2004, she toured Venezuela with Berto Varillas and the band Ástura.

Along with Berto Varillas, Anabel Santiago was the star of the show Torner (named after Eduardo Martínez Torner), with musical production by Ismael González Arias, which premiered on 26 February 2005 at the Conservatory of Oviedo, and with which she toured during the rest of the year.

At the end of 2005, she published the album Anabel Santiago canta a Diamantina Rodríguez (Anabel Santiago Sings for Diamantina Rodríguez), dedicated to Diamantina Rodríguez, a prominent Asturian music singer. This album was published in the whole country.

The album Música de Mujer (Women's Music), an exclusive release by La Fábrica de Ideas and Fnac, included the song "Esi pandeiru que toco" (That Tambourine I Play), from her album Anabel Santiago canta a Diamantina Rodríguez, and the album Nuestra diversidad cultural (Our Cultural Diversity), edited by Fnac, La Fábrica de Ideas and Radio 3, includes the song "El galán d'esta villa" (The Gallant of This Town), an original by Ismael González Arias.

In 2010, she published Agora (Now), produced by Héctor Braga.

In 2015 she published Llances de papel (Paper Spears), which includes popular Asturian songs, Tangos, and other songs with lyrics by José Luis Remis and music by Xulio Arbesú.[1] In this album, she mixed indie pop and tonada in some songs, while others are more clearly folk.[2]

In 2019, she ran in the local elections in Oviedo with Podemos, where she won a seat on the city council for the period 2019–2023.[3][4]
