Anahita Razmi (born 1981) is a German Iranian contemporary artist working with installation, sculpture, moving image and performance..[1] Razmi’s work deploys processes of appropriation in which the meanings of existing images, artefacts and thus identities are altered by situating them in another temporal context.[2] Her work often deals with both political and social issues, ones in fact that are often related to Iran, the homeland of Razmi's father.[3]

Anahita Razmi studied Media Art at Bauhaus Universität Weimar, Pratt Institute New York, and Fine Art / Sculpture at State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart.[4]

Career[edit]

Razmi's works were exhibited in international institutions like Halle 14, Leipzig[5], Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw[6], Museo Jumex, Mexico City, Kunstraum Innsbruck[7], Sazmanab Center for Contemporary Art, Tehran[8], Kunsthalle Baden-Baden[9], and Kunstmuseum Stuttgart[10][11]

Razmi received the Tarabya Cultural Academy Fellowship, Istanbul (2020)[12], the Goethe at LUX Residency, London (2018)[13][14], the Villa Kamogawa Residency, Kyoto (2015)[15], the Werkstattpreis Kunststiftung Erich Hauser[16][17], the MAK-Schindler Scholarship, Los Angeles (2013)[18], and The Emdash Award, Frieze Foundation, London (2011)[19].

Her work is included in several international collections like the Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, the Museo del Novecento, Florence and Davis Museum at Wellesley College, USA.[20]

In 2022, Razmi rejected an artist grant by Stiftung Kunstfonds criticizing the foundation's structural setup and the lack of diversity within its juries.[31][32]
