Babu Ananda Chandra Bhowal, (better known as Ananda Chandra Bhowal) was a Bengali Hindu aristocrat Zamindar in the erstwhile Bengal Presidency.

Family

His father was a rich businessman and Ananda Chandra Bhowal was born in 1878 in the house of Jagabandhu Bhowal at the then Dhaka District. He was educated at home in his native village. From early childhood he witnessed the Indian Nationalism Movement. He grew up within strict Hindu rituals as he was born in the Brahmin Barujibi Caste. Caste hierarchy was most common in those days. At around the age of 30, he married Kamini Devi. Betel and cash crops made him a reputed Zamindar. Born and brought up in the Noiro Pukur Paar village under the then Munshiganj Thana of Dhaka District. He had 5 sons and 1 daughter.

Politics

He actively inspired young generations and participated in the Anti-British Movement and was inspired by it. He was the Zamindar of villages like Kewar, Makahati, Dhamod, Noiro Pukur Paar, Ghashi Pukur Paar, Aldi, Bajroyogini, Ramsingh etc., with around 65,000 acres of land and a population of 2000.

Partition of Bengal, Rise of Bangladesh and Immigration

East Bengal State Acquisition and Tenancy Act of 1950 led to the mass destruction of the Zamindari. The anti-Hindu genocide of the early 50's left thousands of Hindus as immigrants to India. As a result, along with his villagers and family, he fled to West Bengal in October 1954 but again returned in the early 60's. At last, in the last sixties, he took Indian citizenship and lived until his death in India.
