Anatoliy Sergeevich Malykhin [2] (Russian: Анатолий Сергеевич Малыхин; born January 11, 1988) is a Russian mixed martial artist currently signed to ONE Championship, where he competes in the Heavyweight division. He is the current interim ONE Heavyweight World Champion. Malykhin has competed for Fight Nights Global.
Malykhin is currently training at the Tiger Muay Thai gym in Phuket, Thailand. Malykhin also holds a notable win over Iranian World Wrestling gold medalist and MMA star Amir Aliakbari
Background[edit]
Anatoly Malykhin was born on January 11, 1988, in the city of Kemerovo . Subsequently, he moved to permanent residence in Moscow.[3]
He was a bronze medalist at the 2013 Russian National Freestyle Wrestling Championships in the 120 kg event.[4] In the same year, on charges of doping, he was disqualified for two years.[5]
Mixed martial arts career[edit]
Amateur career[edit]
Anatoly Malykhin became the winner of Russia in youth and youth. He took a bronze medal at the national championship. And in 2016, Anatoly became the European champion in grappling.[6] World champion ( SBE ) in MMA 2017 in the weight category over 93 kg.[7]
Early career[edit]
He made his debut in mixed martial arts at a professional level in November 2017, at the GTC (Golden Team Championship) tournament,[8] where he received a fight from the Iranian athlete Reza Torabi,[9] which became Anatoly's first professional victory. He continued to compete in the GTC promotion, where he defeated the Polish fighter Michal Wlazlо.[10] He held his third fight at the combined Fight Nights Global and GTC tournament against the famous fighter from Russia Magomedbag Agaev.[11] where he took the victory in the first round.[12]
ONE Championship[edit]
Anatoliy Malykhin made his ONE debut against former ONE Light Heavyweight title challenger Alexandre Machado at ONE Championship: Fists of Fury 2 on March 5, 2021. He won the fight by first-round technical knockout via ground and pound from the crucifix position.[13]
Malykhin then faced former Greco-Roman wrestling world champion Amir Aliakbari at ONE Championship: Revolution on September 24, 2021. He defeated Aliakbari by first-round knockout. His win over Aliakbari would earn a shot at Arjan Bhullar for the ONE Heavyweight World Championship.[14][15]
After failed contract negotiations between Bhullar and ONE Championship, it was announced that Malykhin and Kirill Grishenko would face each other for an interim title at ONE Championship: Only the Brave.[16] However, the fight was postponed and rescheduled for ONE Championship: Bad Blood after Malykhin tested positive for COVID-19.[17]
Malykhin faced Kirill Grishenko for the interim ONE Heavyweight Championship at ONE Championship: Bad Blood on February 11, 2022. He won the bout after knocking Grishenko unconscious in the second round. His performance earned him two Performance of the Night bonuses totaling $100,000.[18][19][20][21]
